Maternal Health
The area of maternal health is making great strides in the country of Rwanda, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. One of the problems that is still prevalent in Rwanda is the fact that 47 percent of Rwandan women still give birth at home, without the assistance of trained medical personnel. That is almost half of the population of child bearing women giving birth at home with no trained personnel. That can be very dangerous for the mother and for the newborn. I think something that can be done about this is to have OBGYN physicians volunteer their time to train women the basics in delivering a baby and caring for the mother in the time of birth so that there can be trained personnel in the home of the mother while she is giving birth.
Another issue that Rwanda still struggles with is the lack of facilities. There are four sectors kind of like cities that have no medical facilities leaving soon to be mothers with absolutely no formal healthcare. Something that could be done to remedy this is again, get trained professionals for the US and surrounding countries to go in and train people on basic healthcare and at the same time, do something like a habitat for humanity in these sectors and build a basic healthcare facility that can provide these soon to be mothers with some formal healthcare.
