Above I found the HDI info for my country of Rwanda from the U.N's website; http://hdrstats.undp.org/en/countries/profiles/RWA.html, I read on their website that the HDI of a country is based off of three basic measurements. A long and healthy life, knowledge and a decent standard of living. Norway is the country that holds the number one spot while the country of Rwanda ranked 167th out of 186 with a score of .434 while top ranking Norway scored .955. Rwanda's ranking puts them below the regional average. After seeing that chart and those scores, it inherently makes someone, at least myself wonder, why? What made Norway so much able to produce and prosper while Rwanda is struggling so much. Again, I believe the geography has a tremendous impact on everything, as we have so learned through these last few weeks. I do not believe that the people of Rwanda are less blessed or loved by Heavenly Father, I think that they are equally loved and that they are there going through the trials they are facing for a reason. A reason that you and I do not know and probably never will. It seems that Rwanda has a long way to go before they are going to make their way up the HDI scale. Though they are making small upward steps, they are small. The average life expectancy is 55 years of age and with a 63% primary school drop out rate, it shows there is a lot of room for improvement.
The World is Flat Ranking:
After looking at Rwanda's HDI and reading a little about their government, I would say that Rwanda is a 1.0 country. Though it is governed by a president, there have only been two elections in 7 years with the same person winning both years. There is still extreme poverty and there is not much enterprise in Rwanda. They do have exports of coffee, tea, and minerals, but it is all controlled by the government and there are no independent companies running the exports. There is a little bit of tourism starting to develop in Rwanda and things are starting to recover from the 1994 genocide, so in the next decade or so I think that Rwanda could become a 2.0 ranking country.
